Folk Art Treasures
with Lindy Clarkson (Judd) C.D.A. & T.D.A.
BIG NEWS Lindy was awarded her Certified Decorative Artist (C.D.A.)
by the Society of Decorative Painters (USA) in May 2007. Lindy is only the
fourth Australian to achieve this award and the only one to hold a C.D.A. and T.D.A.
Details of the certification program are on the SDP's website,
see link on our contact page.
Lindy started decorative painting in 1992. To
her surprise she had a lot of natural talent for painting and design which she
developed over the next few years by practicing, taking classes and
seminars to learn as much about decorative art as she could.
In 1995 Lindy saw the Russian folk art style
“Zhostovo” for the first time and it was an instant addiction. While
now known for her Zhostovo designs Lindy enjoys painting all decorative
art styles. Lindy continues to learn new styles and techniques.
Lindy has studied under many artists in Australia and the U.S.A. Some
of them include Christine Whipper, Lorraine Summerville, Jan Shaw, Karen
Hubbard, Sharyn Bynam, Arlene Beck, Shirley Wilson, Sherry Nelson and
Leanne Milhano.
All of this experience has influenced her individual painting style,
allowing Lindy to paint and teach a very wide variety of subjects
and techniques. Lindy created her first original design six months
after she started painting and published her first pattern packet
in 1997. Her most recent designs feature her favourite animals (cats)
and as always florals. She is well known for creating Zhostovo paintings,
flat-brush strokework roses and using unusual background effects.
In February 2002 Lindy became the first Australian to be awarded a T.D.A. (Teacher of Decorative Art) by the Society of Decorative Painters in the USA. This award recognises excellence in teaching.
Lindy is a Supporting Artist for Delta, DecoArt and Royal brushes.
Lindy's work was published in ToleWorld magazine three times in 2002.
In 2003 she was in Paintworks February edition and also August's ToleWorld.
In 2004 she was published in February and October's ToleWorld. Pictures of all
Lindy's published articles can be seen on the Gallery page.
Lindy traveled to the USA in 1999, 2000, 2001 and 2002 to attend
Decorative Painting Conventions and to teach. She has also traveled
to New Zealand teaching Zhostovo and backgrounds. Lindy takes great
pleasure in passing on her knowledge and passion for painting to students.
She enjoys travel teaching and is always interested in teaching in
new areas.
Lindy's first video "Creating Beautiful Roses" is now available.
